Lane Cove Park is a nature lover's paradise. Here one will find a wide variety of birds (many of which are people-friendly), reptiles (especially eastern water dragon lizards), plant life, and fish in the tidal section of the river (downstream from Fuller's bridge). For those who fancy a bit of exercise, you can hire a canoe and paddle down the river, or go for a bushwalk on the Great Northern Walk. The Great Northern Walk actually goes all the way to Newcastle, however only 27km of the track is within the Lane Cove area. For those less ambitious, the walk from Fullers Bridge to De Burghs Bridge offers many great views and can be done within a few hours.

Lane Cove is also an ideal location for picnics. There are several picnic areas that are mostly available on a fist-come, first-serve basis. A few of picnic areas can be reserved at a price that is suitable for very large groups. Car entry to the park is $7 for the day. The park gates close at 7pm.
