Miscellaneous Snorkel Pictures

There are many other potential snorkel locations in Sydney. Here I comment on a few that I only had a brief look at.

One of the best snorkels I've had was at Palm beach, at the rock baths near Cabbage Tree boat harbour. There was an enormous number of fish, including a school of semi-large squid. Another great place was Long Reef on the north-western point. I didn't see a lot of fish, but what I saw was spectacular, including a large octopus with green eyes and a wobbegong shark.

Around Manly, Delwood beach showed potential. I didn't find much at Little Manly other than some sting rays, but maybe because I didn't go in the right location: I only tried swimming around the jetty. There is actually a "Little Manly Point Reserve" on the eastern side which I plan to look at in the future. There have been some reports of good snorkeling at Shelly beach, but we prefer the neighbouring Cabbage Tree Bay/Fairy Bower.

A few other places: Dee Why seemed okay (the northern end), Balmoral beach was pretty good and seems to have potential, Curl Curl didn't have much to impress me, and some beach I tried at Royal National Park had less than I had hoped for (but some friends of mine said they swam with manta rays there!). La Perouse has been the most disappointing place that I have tried: it is good for diving, and looks like it would be good for a snorkel, but I have not yet had a good snorkel there after a couple tries.
